The building blocks of a floor heating system – the components
Floor heating systems have a lot of advantages over other conventional methods of climate control in a house. Before getting such a system installed, one should have an idea of the various components that make up the system. The heat source is the heart of the system – it is what generates the heat which is distributed throughout a room. The heat source may be a boiler (in hydronic systems), or the heating coils (in an electric system). After the heat source, comes the distribution system. The distribution subsystem in floor heating mats & cables systems is responsible for transferring heat from the heat source to the room. For electric systems, it consists of the wiring circuits, while for hydronic systems, the pipes and pump consist of the distribution system. A thermostat controls the temperature of the floor heating system. With a simple idea of the components used in a floor-based heating system, a person can make the right decision of whether to go for an electric system or a hydronic system.
